Meeting of the project team in Tenerife

Visit to the world heritage site Risco Caído and the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria
As part of the 2nd Scientific Meeting in Tenerife, a guided visit was run by José de León Hernández, an archaeologist and historical heritage inspector from the Island Council of Gran Canaria, and a team made up of experts from the World Heritage and Biosphere Reserve Institute of Gran Canaria.
As such, on the 14 July, the research team from the PAYSOC project had the opportunity to discover first-hand the features of this landscape, which is a World Heritage Site. This involved visiting the troglodyte settlements (cave dwellings) carved from the rock, and the Tejeda Basin, a great place for finding out about the geological past of the island. The group also visited the area of Barranco Hondo, where the Risco Caído cave is found, as well as Artenara, where there is an exact replica of it. The route, designed by the team of experts, also included visits to other sites which are key to understanding the values and particular features of this cultural landscape, such as Acusa, La Mesa del Junquillo and the hamlet Carrizal de Tejeda.
