Underwater archaeology faces the challenge of balancing heritage preservation with public accessibility. This article explores how the controlled opening of underwater sites can support both conservation and the dissemination of submerged history. It emphasizes the need for sustainable strategies that allow society to engage with these remnants without compromising their integrity, ensuring their long-term protection. Furthermore, the role of archaeology as a discipline that must transcend academia and connect with the public through accessible and meaningful narratives is discussed. Education, the involvement of local communities in heritage management, and the use of innovative technologies emerge as essential tools. A combination of regulated visits, specialized guides, and resources such as virtual reality can facilitate public understanding of the past and strengthen society’s connection with its cultural legacy. Finally, the article highlights the need to shift perceptions of underwater archaeology, moving away from its traditionally exclusive nature and promoting an inclusive approach. Transforming these sites into spaces for learning and reflection will not only ensure their preservation but also recognize them as essential testimonies of human history.
